Welcome to the website for DES Action UK.
We are a medical charity whose aim is to provide
information to the public and medical practioners about
DES (diethylstilboestrol), a synthetic oestrogen
prescribed in the UK until 1975 to prevent miscarriage.
Unfortunately it had several side effects that were
unknown or ignored at the time - some refer to it as
the "hidden thalidamide".
Please browse the site for further information and
you may contact the charity via post or email.
A FAQ page will be added in 2008, including
some drug trade names that are and
are not DES. In the meantime there is a link
to a list of DES brand names used in the States.
Finally, please be patient if you contact us
.
DES Action UK has only the three
trustees responding to enquiries (and all of us have other fulltime jobs).
